The potency of drawings was once again shown at the latest auction at Christie´s Rockefeller Plaza, New York on november the 8th. With a total result of around 12.5 million dollars for only 91 lots, it can be regarded as a very succesful sale for masterworks on paper. The high quality drawings ranging from Matisse to Feininger aroused enthusiasm among collectors and dealers. Some highlights of the sale: two studies of Danseuses by Edgar Degas reaching the estimate of around 450 thousand dollars each,
together with three works on paper by Marc Chagall, all show the confidence of the market in masterpieces. Still, drawings like the three sheets by Odilon Redon show that even now there is a possibility of buying a master drawing for a relatively modest price. All in all it turned out to be an extraordinary sale, with interesting opportunities for private collectors. See the results at christies.com.
