Angels were an important theme in the oeuvre of Swiss artist. The Kunsthalle in Hamburg gave an overview of 90 angels by the artist. Among them were many of his sketches and watercolours. His angels are neither perfect nor idealized. They are sometimes scary and some are even quite human in their appearance. For Paul Klee angels were ideal for expressing good and evil and the duality of man.
This exhibition gathered Klee’s angels for the first time making it a historical overview. It was organised in close cooperation with the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern. ’Angels’ is on display until 7 July this year.
