Later on Giulio would travel to the North of Italy to settle at the court of the Gonzaga in Mantova. Here he was commissioned to decorate the rooms of the Palazzo del Te and parts of the Palazzo Ducale, assisted by the young Primaticcio. In the exhibition a series of drawings relates to these large decoration schemes. For example a design for the Sala dei Venti in the Palazzo del Te. The Louvre collection of Giulio’s drawings is considerable. Many of them were acquired by famous collectors like Everhard Jabach, Pierre Crozat or Pierre Jean Mariette. The exhibition covered both periods of Giulio’s career, first as a close follower of Raphael and the later on as an independent master at the court of the Gonzaga family.
